Connect to the world

The Baseboard is a module designed to fulfill the following requirements:

  • interface to external sensors, carry out their sensing and transmission to the gateway or issue the control command (*). A baseboard can manage three analog signals over several protocols (UART, I2C, etc.) as well as two digital outputs. The control algorithm may be implemented on the radio chip itself or on more demanding cases on the extension described below. Data sensing/ sampling is a part of the WIRELESS THINGS ad hoc routing protocol implemented on all modules. This key issue is described in Insights, Technical information, where video and other documentation is available
  • provide for extended programming capacity, by means of a PSOC (programmable system on chip) that may fit on the baseboard module to allow for this extended capacity. For example, such an extension is required for the occupancy sensor that measures in the real time the number of persons that are located in a given space.
  • provide for various extensions, by means of appropriate extension boards. Click NEXT (below right) to see what kind of extension boards are currently available

Baseboards may be battery or mains energy sourced.

Enclosures: As baseboards may vary a lot as to their deployment and configuration all baseboards are offered in our own enclosures that may flexibly expose the interfaces, every time required (e.g mains connectivity).


AC [1x and 3x] & DC meters

Our wireless energy meters cover all the spectrum of amperage. What is important is that up to 25A, both 1x and 3x the module design is compact and everything is located on board. This allows easy and direct placement on cabinet rails with no need for induction loops.

Only for amperage above 25A we have to use an external induction loop to measure the current. Current sensing is based on shunt for 1x (see Fig. 2 below) or hall sensing principle for 3x (see Fig. 3 below). DC currents are again measured by means of a shunt.

AC meters use the ADE chip from Analog Devices. This is located on the back side of the module (see Fig. 4 below). DC meters do not need this chip and use only an transistor amplifier.

Enclosures: All our wireless energy modules are offered in two types of enclosures.

  • Standard cabinet rail enclosures (see Fig. 1 below), suitable for placement in electric cabinets. In the case of currents larger than 25A a external induction loop will be required. In all other cases this is not required and a more compact design results
  • Our own custom enclosures also used in the case of the baseboard series. This is a better option in the case the meter is not placed in a cabinet but close to the electric load it monitors.


Embedded sensors

Extension boards are plugged onto the baseboard to provide for embedded sensing. Thus, besides connecting to virtually any kind of external sensor, we offer a number of embedded on board, sensors. These are called extension boards. At the moment the following extension boards are available:

  • EnvSense; for temperature, humidity and light; see figure 1 below.
  • CO2Sense; for CO2.
  • InfraSense; for a remote, contact free measurement of a surface temperature
  • OccuSense; measures human passes from an entrance/ exit. In the case of multi-entrance spaces a respective number of OccuSense modules will be required to assess the space real time population.









The WT dashboard is a free web service for monitoring your project. It provides for the following:

1. real time access to all network nodes and parameters

2. detailed history information for all parameters

3. reports on alerts, alarms that have been set by the user as well as complex indicators (eg. device efficiency field validation via real time measurements, energy efficiency that takes account not only of consumption data but also of meteo, occupancy, comfort and any other data that provides true insight to energy efficiency).

The Dashboard is a free web service for monitoring your WIRELESS THINGS project. Free hosting is also possible, provided you will allow to publish a small sample of your real time data.
